In the words of Mike Yager, "Pursue Your Passion Here"!

On February 23, 1974, Mike Yager borrowed $500.00 to establish his business, and Pursue his Passion for CORVETTES.  With that money he purchased items such as CORVETTE patches, jackets, key chains, T-shirts with transfers, and owner's manuals to sell at various CORVETTE SHOWS.

At that time he never realiized the impact he would eventually make on the CORVETTE hobby and its' many fans.  His company (MID AMERICA MOTORWORKS) now has 180,000 sq. ft. of buildings on a 150 acre campus, employees 175 workers, and mails out 6,000,000 catalogs annually.  Some would say thats a great American sucess story, and it is; but Mike Yager's sucsess didn't happened by accident, it happened because of hard work and an assertive effort to keep his passion alive.  Just ask any of his employees, and they will tell you that MIKE leads by example.

Fast Forward to September 1994: Mike Yager celebrates 20 years of business, with the inception of the first ever CORVETTE FUNFEST.  For those CORVETTE enthusiast whom have never visited FUNFEST or the  MID AMERICA campus, make it a priority on your list of things to do for next year.  Since January 2008, I have been to the NCRS meet in Orlando, Florida, the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale Arizona, CHEVY VETTTEFEST in Rosemont Illinois, Bloomington Gold in St. Charles Illinois, the CORVETTE Plant in Bowling Green Kentucky for the completion of the first 2009 ZR1, the Mid-West Corvette Chevy Show in Valporaiso Indiana and many local Chicagoland CORVETTE Shows, each offering something special; and speaking for myself, I found the 2008 CORVETTE FUNFEST a perfect way to end the Summer outdoor Show circuit.

CORVETTE 2008 FUNFEST HAD MUCH TO OFFER:

As you enter the gate you are greeted by a friendly staff that hands you a goody bag. The bag contains such gifts as a FUNFEST lapel pin, a poster, a fully colored commemorative hard covered book, a coupon for two t-shirts in any size you wish, and a 10% discount card for any purchases made while visiting.  Next you are directed where to park, and then you realize, there is no addmission fee.  This outstanding event gave me the feeling of being at a family reunion of some rich relative.  There were two Trams and one double decker bus shuttling the attendees to an from points of interest on the grounds.  You had the opportunity to visit Mikes (MY GARAGE) Museum, where he displays some of  his rarest examples of CORVETTE history; my favorite is the 1964 World's Fair CORVETTE.  In a nearby building is the all new Performance Choice facility that manufactures and installs custom interiors for your CORVETTE, while on the other side of the Campus was a great display of Corvette Challenge Series Corvettes.  If you were looking to buy a Corvette, there were about 100 of them for sale as well.  The top aftermarket exhaust manufacturers, and Baer Brakes representaives were present answering questions and installing their products on enthusiast's Corvettes, and General Motors Engineers were giving rides in the all new  ZR1.   There were seminars with such notables as Gordon Killebrew, and an area dubbed "THE FIELD OF DREAMS" where  some of most beautiful CORVETTES of each generation, both custom and original were displayed and being judged by celebrities that were in attendence.  The food was good, with a large covered area for seating, and the Butter Pecan Ice Cream was the best I have ever had.  Lastly the presence of the famous Budweiser Clydesdales parading around the grounds put the topping on the cake.  And that my fellow enthusiast is just a sampling of what CORVETTE FUNFEST 2008 had to offer.

MID AMERICA's slogin is, "Persue your Passion Here"; and we did!

VETTESTER looks forward to attending next year's 35th Anniversary Celebration.
