Wednesday, 14 November 2007
Tuesday October 30, 2007 VETTESTER attended what we would describe as the Best Show on Earth!  For those of you who are not familiar with SEMA, let’s set the record straight; this show is not for Purists, but for Enthusiasts who are fans of Outstanding Car Crafting, Modifying, and Custom Cars.  Every Major Company was in attendance marketing their latest products.

We visited with many of the industries leaders, such as Vic Edelbrock Jr. (whose company is celebrating 70 years in business), Chip Foose and Carson Lev of FOOSE DESIGN (who informed us that they were working on a 1954 CORVETTE).

We also met Automotive Designer Dale Frye, John Wargo of the Custom Shop, Mike Lavallee of KILLER PAINT, and Troy Trepanier of Rad Rides by Troy, who invited VETTESTER to his shop to see his latest Rad Ride, a 1963 CORVETTE.

We also visited with COMP Cams’ Chris Douglas, MSD’s Silver Gomez, PROCHARGER’s Jeff Lacinda, BILLY BOAT Performance Exhaust’s Mark Fowler, HEDMAN HEDDERS’ Wes Fisher, and Classic Reflection Coachworks’ Carolyn Graf, just to name a few.  Mario Andretti and his grandson, Marco, Roy Hill “the General”, Ashley Force, Robert Hight, and another racing legend, Carroll Shelby were all in attendance, meeting and greeting fans.

Now for the CORVETTE standouts of the show…

VETTESTER visited the G.M. Display area where Jay Leno’s Latest and most Beautiful C6 / Z06 was drawing large crowds. This CORVETTE has some very unusual appointments, such as the haring bone louvered front fenders, and an 8.2 litre engine that puts out an estimated 600 Horsepower (Watch Video).  However, in reality, it is an all out Race Car disguised as a Custom Daily Driver that any CORVETTE enthusiast would want to own.  Next, we admired a 1963 Split window Sting Ray with a Mid-Engine. This work of art was built by Phil Somers and Mark Harlon of American Supercar.  Zora Duntov’ would have been proud (Watch Video).  And finally, the CORVETTE show stopper!...Rod Saboury’s 1963 Spilt Window Extreme CORVETTE Sting Ray (Watch Video). This Twin Turbo Beast sports a Small Block Chevy engine displacing 398 cubic inches, configured with Big Block Dart Heads.  Should I repeat that?

A SMALL BLOCK WITH BIG BLOCK HEADS! Rod has been known for taking CORVETTES that he drives on the street, and getting them to turn Record Breaking Times in the ¼ Mile.  He is truly a Visionary with a passion for fast cars, namely CORVETTES!  This latest marvel has gathered up some 500 miles on the street, runs cool, and can Blast the ¼ mile in 7.09 at 198 mph on pumped gas.  It will soon be equipped with a Vintage air conditioning system and an i-pod radio.   Check out our interviews with Rod Saboury and many of the people mentioned in this article, as well as, other unique CORVETTES on VETTESTER Video.
