Copyright Chevy Vettefest If you’re a Corvette enthusiast living in a region such as the American Midwest, your car is usually put away by the first day of November, and all you can look forward to is spring. Fortunately for those of us that attended the annual CHEVY VETTEFEST held in Rosemont, Illinois; our passion was extended to another weekend.
On Saturday November 22nd and Sunday November 23rd Chevy and Corvette enthusiasts alike gathered at the Donald Stephens Convention Center to admire a verity of original, restored, and custom Corvettes that represent individual taste and preference.  Many of the Cars were being judged for the Gold Spinner Award and others for the prestigious Triple Crown.  Representing NCRS were Edward Wodniakowski, Santo Scafide, Rich Verba, and Bob Tokarsky signing up new members.  There were many Showcase cars displayed, one being a Tribute to the Famous Baldwin Motion CORVETTEs from 1969, 1970 and 1971; and another celebrating the CHICAGO CORVETTE CLUB’s 50TH ANNIVERSARY.
Standout CORVETTEs:  Anyone in attendance would have a hard time deciding which car was their favorite; however there was a few that drew my attention.  Tim Cossette of Vette RODS located in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, brought an outstanding Resto-Rod 1963 Split Window Coupe, that was an eye catcher.  This Vette has something I have never seen before; it sports an interior that has actual StingRay skin inserted in the upper part of the bucket seats.  Joe “the VETTE MD.” Seputis of Vetteran Automotive in Crystal Lake, Illinois, displayed a 1965 Resto-Rod Drop Top that had a lot of old school technology with BIG BLOCK Power.  And there was Kevin MacKay from Corvette Repair out of Valley Stream, New York showing his personal 1966 Rodger Penske #9 Racer, as well as the rare one of a kind Baldwin Motion Corvette he restored for Corvette Collector Rick Manetta.  All the Baldwin Motion Corvettes are rare, but what makes this particular one unique is that it is the only one ever built and documented to have a Mopar (Dodge) Fuel Cap. Did I say Mopar (Dodge) Fuel Cap? Yes I did!  Kevin has explained that this 1969 Phase III model originally cost about 11,000 Dollars when new.  The Car has about 18,000 original miles and its authenticity has been documented by both Joel Rosen and Marty Shorr to be the only one ever built that way.
New Products: As most shows offer old parts and swap meets sections, CHEVY VETTEFEST does as well, but sometimes it’s the new products that take center stage.  If there was an award for Best New Products, for me it would have to be the all new RediRad made in the U.S.A. by Brew city engineering, out of Delafield Wisconsin.  This product designed by Matthew Planning is for the enthusiast who refuses to alter or replace their original radio, yet wants the ability to listen to CD’s and I-pods. All you have to do is unplug your antenna wire from the radio, plug in the RediRad to that port, plug your antenna wire into the RediRad, connect your hot wire to the fuse panel and the other to a ground and you’re in business.  To operate just set your dial at 10 on the AM side of your radio, plug in your device and listen to your favorite tunes.  Your classic car still looks original, and is living in the 21st Century. Last of All:  Our first print (Two Sharks and a StingRay) by Frank John was raffled off and won by one of Chicago’s leading CORVETTE technical advisers, Bob Sindelar.  And VETTESTER wishes continued success to Show Manager Bob Ashton and his wonderful staff.
